NANNING RESTAURANTS
When you go to a restaurant use your Chinese guide for help as the menu's are always written in Chinese
with a few exceptions.  Everyone will eat at one table from many different bowls with chopsticks(kuaizi).

The food is most times always great and usually very inexpensive with the exception of the hotel
restaurants.  Plan to pay more than normal as they cater (understandably) more to tourists than locals.

At times the people you are dining with might take the initiative and put food in your bowl.  This is normal
so make sure you eat it.  And if you don't like something or have special dietary requirements tell them
before the meal is ordered.  This way the dining experience is not disturbed and your host will not lose
face because they ordered wrong and food is wasted.  Waste of anything, especially food in China, is a big
no-no, so make a note.

Besides the standard restaurant fare there are lots of noodle stalls (Hot-Pot) and street vendors selling a
myriad of different foods.  One of my favorites is the open air barbeque.  It's great to sit outside in the
evening (especially when it's hot) and eat barbeque, drink beer, and enjoy the company of your friends.
Check out the photos below sent to me from my good friend Richard Rosenburg showing an evening at
"Barbeque Street" in downtown Nanning next to the Yongjiang Hotel.  (Click on them for a larger view)

While in Nanning check in with my friends at the V-Touch Cafe!  Great place for
foreigners to meet and the food is great!  They have an English Corner as well.  See my
ExpatsCorner page for a list of all the English Corners in Nanning.  Don't forget, every
Wednesday beginning at 6:30 PM is Cultural Exchange Night with all you can eat!!
